So Camp NaNoWriMo is next month. I wasn’t thinking about doing it, but then I got invited into a cabin by some people in my writing group and the next thing I know, I’m making a (mock) cover for the profile. Because I like making book covers and the like.
And here it is!
A neat thing arrived in the mailbox this morning: The Writer’s Block Tarot! I’m not a Tarot person as such, but I liked the idea of a tool that helped me think about different aspects of my characters and story. Plus it just looked fun.
So to test it I got a-shuffling, then laid out a relationship spread for Livia and Aspasia, my two (romantic) leads for my adult fantasy The Cantia Covenant.
The first of December means two things for me. The first is that it’s my birthday. The second is NaNoWriMo is finally over! I didn’t win, which came as no surprise as I previously blogged about giving up (and why that’s not always a bad thing). Also, earthquakes suck.
So to celebrate, I am posting a small fragment of The Cantia Covenant, which I have dubbed How Einar Got A Job Instead Of Arrested. Be warned: it is terrible in all the ways a NaNo novel can be. The only edits have been to fully excise the segments I would have deleted while writing, only instead struckthrough because NaNo.
So, it’s been not quite two weeks since my last blog entry, and since I have not much to say beyond a whole lot of stuff happening, I thought I’d do an update post instead of something long and interesting.
So I’m still working on a blurb for my NaNo novel – something that is always super super hard – but what I have finished is the playlist to go with that novel. And now I’m showing it off.
So last week I posted The Great NaNo To-Do List, which summed up all the things I hope to do as part of my NaNo prep. It ranged from the basics, like coming up with a title (something I always find hard) and writing a blurb (something 1000 times harder still), to making music playlists and media I’m going to consume to help get me in the mood.
So it’s just over a month now until NaNoWriMo. Eep. I wrote a little about it previous, and since then have made some decisions. Yes, I am going to do NaNo. Yes, I have decided what I am going to write. And yes, I am terrified.
Of course, with the decision to do NaNoWriMo comes at least a little bit of planning. I’m not talking about coming up with a great big outline, but getting a few little things done now so I don’t have to worry during the month of November. So behold: The Great NaNo To-Do List (2016 edition)!
We’re less than two months away from NaNoWriMo and yet it seems both nearer and further than it actually is. Then again, the year in general has gone by strangely fast – despite not much happening (at least for me). It’s a terrifying thought, that time and life is passing me by without experiencing much at all.
I am working on a fantasy story right now, an adult (not YA) work that is for the most part about women. And blood magic. My core cast is 75% women (three women, one man), and as of now their support network is somewhere between 66-75% female. I’m still working out a lot of the secondary cast which is why numbers are in flux.
